MELNIKOVA O.T. «Focus Group Research Methods and Techniques»: The article describes structurally methods and techniques used in focus group research. The focus group procedure details are considered and techniques are reviewed (questions, sounding methods, projective techniques etc.). Focus group method is treated as integral upcoming method to solve research and practice problems.

TOLSTOVA U.N., MAZINA E.E. «On the History of Sociology and Mathematics Relation: Russia in Period of the Middle of the XVII – the Beginning of the XX Case»: The paper shows that mathematics in the part of probability theory and sociology in the part of quantitative surveys has common origin and developed simultaneously enriching each other.  The emphasis is placed on these sciences relations in Russia in the end of XIX – beginning of XX especially. Russian science advances are compared with the Occidental ones at the same time.

GAVRILOV K.A. «On the Concept of “Risk” Formation in Sociology»: The structural elements of the concept of «risk» are revealed in the article, they are considered through the prism of sociological research programs. Impossibility of general definition formulation is substantiated. Two modified definitions of the concept of «risk» are presented.

TEMNITSKIY A.L. «The Category of “Socioculture” Research Potential»: The article is devoted to scientific concepts’ standards of usage. It’s explored the potential of the category of «socioculture» treated differently. The article presents the ways of sociocultural approach developing and using for analysis of labor problems in Russian transforming society.

TIHONOVA N.E., ANIKIN V.A., GORYUNOVA S.V., LEZHNINA Yu.P. «The Idea of Modernization Presented in the Sociological Classics’ Works of the Latter Half of the XIX – the Beginning of XX »: The article takes up the early modernization ideas developed by sociological theorists of the latter half of the XIX – the beginning of XX. The ideas of sociological classics (K. Marx, M. Weber, H. Spenser, F. Tönnies) formed the heart of the idea under concideration are analysed. Based on the analysis it was formed the set of morden and traditional societies’ features that permits to eleborate empirical indicators for modernization level of society.

ROGOZIN D.M., MANUILSKAYA K.M. «How to Ask Questions about Occupational Status Correctly»: The results of testing questions about occupational status used by Fund «Public Opinion» in weekly All-Russian polling. It was detected some essential operationalization errors leading to uncontrolled shifts in respondents’ replies. The recommendations for improving the machinery under consideration are presented in the article.

PAUTOVA L.A. «Associative Experiment as Applied to Sociological Issue»: There is a method of associative experiment considered by the paper. The possibility of its sociological application is demonstrated on basis of the associations with the word «stability» study. The comparison of several associative experiments results point out the potential of obtaining such information as: 1) of socio-typical meanings of the word, 2) of social meanings variety and of social problems actualization, 3) of particular group experience, 4) of social and private domains relation.

SAVELYEV L.Ya. «The Probabilistic Model of Expert Estimations»: The probabilistic model of expert estimations and its two applications are considered in the article. The first one concerns an expert estimation of the various factors influence upon national relations of Novosibirsk schoolboys. The second one regards the expert forecasting of package of arrangements efficiency.
